Cody Burgdorff

World Angler

Cody started his fishing journey with the pursuit of panfish in local lakes, using a fly rod and some basic flies. At the age of six, he caught and released his first trout on the Big Thompson River in Colorado. Wading in the rivers, stalking the lake shores, or floating in boat, Cody loves to fish. Cody started guiding for Front Range Anglers in Boulder, Colorado in 2008 and was introduced to competition by Rob Kolanda, who was a member of Fly Fishing Team USA at the time. Cody is a previous member of the U.S. Youth Fly Fishing Team where he received a team silver in 2011’s Youth World Championships in France, and is a current member of Fly Fishing Team USA since 2018. Some of Cody’s accomplishments are winning the Pro Fly Angling Tour in 2015, finishing 4th place in the 2018 US Men’s National Fly Fishing Competition, as well as being chosen to represent the United States at Worlds as a reserve in 2018 and as a competitor in 2021 and 2022. As a competitor at the World Fly Fishing Championships in both 2021 and 2022 Cody finished in the top 15 individually, and was the top individual finisher for Team USA. Cody attributes his success in fly fishing to his family (especially his Grandpa Joe and Grandma Donna), his mentor and friend Rob Kolanda (former member of Team USA), and to all of the instructors and coaches in the clinics and competitions throughout the many years. Cody currently owns his own solar company but is also involved in the fly fishing industry through teaching seminars, instructional guiding, and product development & testing with major fly fishing brands.
