Angler
Madoka Myers was born in Japan, raised in Arizona, and currently nests in Colorado with her husband, David, and dog, Wiley. She started fly fishing in 2010 and was introduced to competition fly fishing through her local fly shop, Front Range Anglers, which has cultivated numerous competitive anglers. After a year as a volunteer controller, she fished in her first competition in 2013. Over the past 11 years, she has fished in over 50 competitions throughout the U.S., Canada and, Europe. This is her third time qualifying for the FFTUSA National Team. She has had the good fortune to study with local and international world-class competition anglers, who were also excellent instructors and great people.
Competition fly fishing provides her with the opportunity to pursue progress, connect with fellow anglers and travelers, and explore some of the most beautiful places on earth. It continues to teach her to work on becoming proficient in a wide variety of fishing techniques, prepare for different environments, and adapt to changing circumstances. She has found that the potential rewards go far beyond the color of a medal, points, or profit as one joins a tribe of anglers, grows as both an angler and as a person, gains perspectives on different ways of life, develops a deeper appreciation for nature and the environment, and learns to focus on Doing the Work.
Her favorite water is the one she’s in. Her favorite fly is the one the fish wants. At 5’ 1” (155 cm), she is proud to represent as the shortest member (ever) of the U.S. National Team. When not near water, she enjoys being home, working with David at Redstone Meadery (which he founded in 2001), and reading. She can sometimes even be caught working as a guide for Front Range Anglers.
