Masters World Angler, Midwest Regional Coordinator
Christopher Smith has been an active coach, competitor, and competition organizer for the past 15 years. From 2013-2016, Chris served as manager and coach for the U.S. Youth Fly Fishing team, coaching the team to multiple gold and silver medals at the Youth World Fly Fishing Championships. Now in his second cycle as a competing member of Fly Fishing Team USA, Chris will also represent the US Master’s team at the 2024 Master’s World Fly Fishing Championships in the Czech Republic.
Not to be outdone, Chris’s wife Melissa is a competing angler for the U.S. Women’s Fly Fishing team, having placed 17th in the 2023 Women’s World Fly Fishing Championship. Chris and Melissa secured their place in history as the first married couple to compete on the U.S. national fly fishing teams, and the journey continues as they become the inaugural husband and wife duo to simultaneously compete at a World Fly Fishing Championship. As they cast their lines on the global stage, the Smiths strive to embody the spirit of team medal mentality and the enduring pursuit of mastery in the art of fly fishing.
Chris and Melissa currently call Black Hawk, Colorado home. Prior to moving to Colorado, Chris spent most of his life fishing the exceptional trout waters of the Appalachian Mountains.
