Angler
Chris started fly fishing in the early 1990s in the Shenandoah range of Virginia and Catskill Mountains of New York. He spent several years in the military where he was able to fish all over the world, including throwing some line in Egypt and Iraq! Pursuing a civilian career in environmental protection, he has been lucky to live in the Catskill area for 25 years, taking full advantage of living and working in a world class fishery. Aware of competitive fly fishing and its value for innovating the sport for years, he started competing in New York four years ago and was privileged to be mentored by longtime FFTUSA anglers Ken Crane and Loren Williams. Chris enjoys all fly-fishing techniques, but practically fished ‘dry fly only’ for his first 20 years, so he has spent the last ten exploring and learning the nuances of subsurface presentations. He fishes and instructs up to 200 days a year, and assists with various beginner programs through Trout Town Flies in Roscoe, NY. Chris has had the great fortune to fish for trout up and down the East Coast, in Great Lake tributaries, the PNW, and Montana. He also started a bonefish obsession several years ago, which has now seeped into family vacations. Looking forward to representing the team and organizing events, he plans to help other anglers understand and appreciate the positive influence of competitive fly fishing- and hopefully bring new participants to the sport. Chris has been married for over twenty years (to an extremely patient and obviously understanding wife) and has three teenagers at home, one of which is an avid bass fisherman, but he still loves him.
